New .NZ Domains Coming 30th September - New era of choice in .nz domain names

The .NZ Domain Registry has announced that from 1pm, 30 September 2014, a significantly amended .nz policy will come into effect – ushering in a new era of choice in .nz domain names. From that date, people will be able to register shorter, simpler, more representative names immediately before the .nz – as well as the more familiar-looking options like ‘.co.nz’ and ‘.org.nz’. All clients will be able to register new .nz domains through our Domain Manager system at www.domains.loungenetwork.co.nz from that date. All existing options like .co.nz, .org.nz and .govt.nz will continue to work as they always have and people will still be able to get names with them. The change simply means that from 1pm, 30 September 2014 people will be able to get names with them, without them, or both. For example, someone could get anyname.nz as well as anyname.co.nz . Registering a name in this way is called ‘registering directly at the second level’. The decision to allow registrations di...

Incident report for Email Delays on the 18/06, caused by Mail storage migration on Auckland Network

Our upstream providers shared mail system users on the Auckland Network may be aware of an issue that occurred on the 18th June during a migration of data to a new mail platform. This resulted in mail delays for some of our clients. RESOLVED | Scheduled Maintenance: Ongoing Mail storage migration on Auckland Network

Update: 07.30pm The mailserver migration is completed and all queued mail has been delivered to the mailboxes successfully. We sincerely apologise for the long delay this sheduled migration took . The migration commenced early this morning at 12am, and should have completed by 3am during off peak hours. However there were a number of unforseen issues that have led to the delay, including the vast amount of individual files on the server which has reduced file transfer speeds. We will put a thorough incident report on this RSS as soon as soon as we have received it from our upstream providers.  ----- Update: 05.30 pm This issue still continues. We sincerely apologise for the long delay. Our upstream providers are absolutely certain in their ability to restore service by tonight. There have been a number of unforseen issues that have led to the delay, including the vast amount of individual files on the server which has reduced file transfer speeds. W...

OpenSSL Vulnerability - Patches for CPanel servers.

Our upstream providers are applying patches to the CPanel servers, in response to the vulerability related to OpenSSL. Clients on our Auckland based non CPanel servers are not affected by this. A vulnerability, called Heartbleed, was recently identified impacting many platforms that use OpenSSL, including the CPanel servers. Potentially millions of servers are affected by this. Nicknamed "Heartbleed" the weakness allows anyone on the Internet to steal information normally protected by SSL/TSL encryption. The bug compromises the secret keys used to identify the provider and encrypt traffic, allowing potential attackers to eavesdrop on communications and impersonate services and users. As soon as our providers became aware of the issue,  they began working to patch it. For more information on the vulnerabilty please visit http://heartbleed.com/   --UPDATE-- This update has now been completed.
